Viz Media to Release the Collected Columns of Nintendo's Iwata Asks Interviews in Book Form

Satoru Iwata

Satoru Iwata was a pioneer in the video game space, going from being a developer in an indie Japanese game studio to becoming the face of gaming's biggest brands, who sadly passed in 2015 at the age of 55 from a bile duct growth. During his time as Nintendo's CEO, Iwata cultivated a column on the Nintendo website called 'Iwata Asks,' where he spoke to game creators and their teams about games that released on Nintendo systems.

Last year, Japanese book publisher Hobonichi, which was founded by Mother series creator Shigesato Itoi, took those columns and collected them into a 'paperback shinsho (pocket-sized)' book titled Iwata-san, which also featured unreleased material from the columns. On July 24, Viz Media announced on Twitter that the publisher will be translating the book and releasing it in English in Spring 2021.

Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom

While it's not known if the entire Japanese book will be translated – as Nintendo's own website didn't translate all the columns into English –, Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom will make for a great read for those who miss the man himself or want a deeper look into Nintendo during the DS to Wii U era.

Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom will be available in physical and digital versions in Spring 2021. The Japanese version released on July 19, 2019, and is also available physically and digitally.
